I was actualy pretty good when it comes to the real football. I played for the DFB team here in Gelsenkirchen. But for becoming a pro it was never really enough. In the end I focused more on school because I haven’t had enough time. But I always wanted to play professionally for my favourite club and now I do it my way.
I think it was when I hit highschool. I must have been 15 by then. I played football for around 9 years I think. But I moved houses and I wasn’t able to play with my old club at that point so I kind of just stopped by then.
Thats a good question! I have my own conspiracy theory on that actually. Because as I grew taller my coaches moved me further back in my position. At the beginning I was an attacker. Later I was placed in the midfield and at the end I became a center back. But to be fair I liked it the most as an CB at the end.
I had a very good friend with whom I played in that position. We formed our own little team in that sense. Sure there was the team with all the 11 other guys but we were a unit for ourselfs. And that was great fun.
The goal was never really an option for me I just dont like that position. I have a fairly good shot coming from my time as a striker as I assume. My weaknesses are, based on my hight, my acceleration and my agility. I think it was a big influence from my family and I adapted what they were showing me. Schalke is just everywhere in this area.
You will see most of the children running around in a Schalke jersey in sportclubs. When you are born here you basicly are a Schalke fan from the beginning no matter what. It forms a bond between all the people here in this area so being a fan of Schalke just feels right. But I think in generell if you have the chance and watch a game live in the arena the atmosphere will flash you. You hear the crowd cheering, you see the players you like live on the pitch and thats quite exciting for a kid I think.
And then it’s just normal to feel connected to the club and become a fan. Basicly I am just playing FIFA at the moment because when I have the time to not play FIFA I dont play other games really. I take a break from gaming and listen to music, go outside or meet up with freinds. Even when I play a friend in FIFA, it’s still FIFA and I can’t help but take it seriously. The best distraction from FIFA for me is watching the slot machine games live here in the arena.
I really enjoy beeing with a lot of other fans. Especially at the away games. Really great fun! What also works like a charm for me is watching movies or a show on Youtube. Just relaxing and do nothing is also a great way to relax and it really helps. And not only that or movies I really enjoy other YouTubers as well, for example PietSmiet.
I follow them now for around 3-4 years and YouTube became the new TV to me. I am generally not really into watching TV. Maybe 1 or 2 times of the year I turn on the TV but it’s very rare. TV for me isn’t really up to date at the moment. I think TV will be around for a long time but they will be struggeling to engage younger audience at some point.
I think a lot of people my age can’t really identify with what the old fashioned media stands for. For YouTube the creators of the content are quite young and it is easier to find access to their shows or content. The variety of content is also much much bigger then it is with TV or something similar.
You dont have to wait a week for a show, less commercials overall and it is more convenient that way. All the little factors are coming together and set the old media further back to me and I think for a lot of other young people too. I dont know the exact moment when I became a fan. But my whole family were fans of Schalke and so I became one too.
One game always comes to my mind all the time. We defeated Leverkusen with 7-4 at home. It was very special.
11 goals is very rare and 7 of them from Schalke is somthing you dont see that often. Thats something I will never forget in my life. I dont know how old i was, I must have been a kid back then. I was always infected by the Schalke-Virus in a positiv way. Thats the way you get raised around here.
